New Study Links Georgia Drought to Population Growth

"The drought that gripped the Southeast from 2005 to 2007 was not unprecedented and resulted from random weather events, not global warming, Columbia University researchers have concluded. They say its severe water shortages resulted from population growth more than rainfall patterns," the New York Times reported October 1, 2009.

  • Atlanta's population growth and consequent demand on their reservoir has danger signals for Florida's panhandle.  To minimize their hardship, Atlanta seeks to reduce river flows that will deplete water availability for Floridians but will also endanger the Apalachicola oyster industry.   It is criminal that the U.S. Congress and President Obama fail to recognize that illegal immigration and too much legal immigration and work visas are responsible for our astronomical population growth.   Where are the Paul Ehrlichs of this generation?
