  • Overpopulation issues? or pure hype to hammer on immigration?

From what I've seen, so far the emphasis seems to be on immigration issues..

Overpopulation is a much greater issue and of far more importance than whether or not a person has documentation allowing them to cross a legal line on the map..  Yes I think border enforcement is important, but global population is of much more urgency..  If we do not start seriously discussing responsible reproduction on a global scale, then immigration isnt going to matter in the least.  When our environment crashes, it could care less about our legal borders.

Nemo, you are absolutely correct. I wish more people would consider the earth in total. Thanks for the great comment.

While it is true that global population growth is probably the single greatest threat to global economic and political stability, it is also true that mass immigration (both legal and illegal) is the main cause of population growth in the US (87%).  If an advanced nation like the US wants to be taken seriously about the need for global population control, it would first have to set an example, and that cannot be done until mass immigration is stopped.

You are correct that world population is of concern.  But each country has to be responsible for itself.  I am sure you would take care of your own families basic needs before helping others.  The same is true with the country.  It will not help the world by simply encouraging immigration, anchor babies, etc.  There is a swift growth of a third world country right within our borders.  Do you realize there are whole villages in mexico that have immigrated.  Mexico is a land rich in natural resources and land. The country is perfectly capable of sustaining its citizens execept for a corrupt government.  Maybe the plan is to get rid of all the poor in Mexico and then our corporate elite here which are hiring them can move to Mexico.

Nicodemas is right! I just moved back to the states after living in Mexico for five years. Having lived not in a gated community or tourist area, but a casa on the streets of Tepic, I can attest to the fact it is the cultures and governments that make the difference. It has nothing to do with "race" or geographical placement.

America has led the world on population growth control since the "baby Boom" of the forties and fifties ( I was born in 45) and remember the discussions and solutions of that problem well, Birth control, Family planning, Roe Vs. Wade (abortion). While we ran head long into these solutions I remmember how the "third world" scoffed at it as an American conspericy to thin out the non-white of the world and wouldn't perticipate. Now because of mass immigration from Mexico to the USA thay have started a program in Mexico to supply free Viagra to the people. Go figure! Why don't the just keep their people there and incourage the illegals back?

A politician from Massachusets (I think) said "think globally and act locally". Global overpopulation and US immigration are not mutually exclusive.
